![]() The "stand down" was not mentioned on the web site - just by a piece of paper taped to the museum door. But, when we went to the Submarine Museum we were greeted with a "closed" sign due to "5-day stand down", whatever that means. You really need to prepare a spreadsheet so you know when to show up at each attraction so you won't be greeted with a "closed" sign.īeing an engineer, I did prepare such a sheet after seeing the confusing array of dates and times on the various web sites. Mondays, Wednesdays, weekends, mornings, afternoons, etc. I've never been to a town where so many attractions are open on their own (unique) schedule (even the Visitors Center!). ![]() This is a knock on the Submarine Museum and St. I highly recommend you do this if you are in St Mary's and its easy to find across Street from the docks and Cumberland Island Tour boarding location. I plan to be back there again with a family of 9 of us in December and I have them all excited about seeing this museum as a special part of our staying at Crooked River State Park and Campground then. I was blown away and spent about 3 hours their, including very interesting chat with 2 of those working there who were very nice and had a lot more to tell about submarines and how the museum came to exist as a privately formed and run Submarine Museum. ![]() I went alone one day with nothing much to do when down at St Mary's waterfront and with an inexpensive admission fee. I was not really a huge fan of submarines and have no history or family historical connection, but I found if fascinating and interesting. This is an amazing accumulation of everything imaginable relating to summaries from their earlier years and the memorabilia and documentation and pictures and explanatory information (including an upstairs, very interesting and informative movie about submarines). ![]()
